I think how you interpret a piece of art speaks more about you than the artist. As someone who has drawn and wrote a bit as a hobby, I know that not all I do is a parallel of my own convictions. For a good story I need to create a character that has different points to mine but appropriate for his situation and this character might be the protagonist. It doesn't mean I have an agenda to promote things. Heck, some creations come in the spur of the moment and whatever we were thinking and feeling when they came to life is gone in a few hours. The idea of a perpetual stance with a piece is silly.
Fanart is re-interpretation. It is bringing to life some vision of these characters, yet once again, this vision doesn't necessarily needs to align to our convictions. If I draw a slob, old and disgusting looking Link. Like LS said about the 101 interpretations would come from 100 that saw my work. Whatever was my intent shouldn't stop you from getting your own impressions on what my piece communicates. That is fine and good. That resonance is what makes people care about your art. it woke something in the public positive or negative is there.
What do you guys think about all of this? Are the reactions of these fandoms justified? Are they being taken to the extreme? Should all of this really be the way it is?
To be honest I think it is an overreaction. I can understand where they are coming from but from the point they are trying to force people into "can" and "can't" they are crossing a line from where I cannot agree.
There are many ways I can show my displeasure to a piece of Fanart or a Fanart trend. I won't put my money on people I don't like their work. I can talk about how I think it is wrong and why and I can try to promote the fanart I like and express why I like it so much, I can make contributions of my own and encourage others to consider doing this or that.
For this Thinsula post it is just appalling she goes to this length to ridicule a person that is basically agreeing with her because her explanation happened to include sentiments geared towards the freedom of art. This person is on a high horse saying she is not asking much when she's basically demanding people to do anything except what she happens to disapprove.

I tried searching for the clip in Youtube of Everybody loves Raymond season 2 episode 1 but I couldn't find it.
So I'll have to Link @Sardonic Pickle for it. It should start at the right time:
That part of the clip should be relevant I hope.Anyway, it was one of the weirdest controller ever. While interesting it also made you lose 4 potential buttons. from your reach.
There was also this game where you used the cross and the stick for it, so your right hand was the one in the middle. So weird.
I kind of miss those horn-support but I also remember how sweaty my hands got around that areaAt least it can still have a use:

Not very effective. -
That's pretty nice. I celebrate Christmas but this year i have nothing special planned for it.
Probably it will be quiet day with @Sardonic Pickle, although for all i know he might work on the eve. -
I love that compilation you put for us @Aphelion. i should add to my To-Watch list many of those.
Fullmetal Alchemist brotherhood is probably my favourite Anime from all the ones I've seen. they're not that many.

While writing recently I came up with a little girl who stands outside and smiles at you through the window. I scared myself silly, was terrified of looking at windows for weeks. Because of a ghost I invented myself.
I find it pretty cool your imagination of this girl was so vivid in your head that it marked you like that when you first came up with it. I hope your writing will make it able for others to see her just as vividly.

I don't know what that means. Please explain.
I think Ala was just mocking around and not being serious.
Is it a hot button for you that people even joke about it because it is still based on the idea that porn is bad?we can talk long hours even days over it and you will not agree to my point and I wont to yours so lets just do both of us a favor and lets just respect each other ideas rite?
Hmm, you seem to be into this weird idea that we cannot have an argument about it without respecting that other people have different views. It can totally happen and become an interesting exchange. I know it helps me challenge my own notions and stop seeing black and white other people's opinions.
I think its my mistake I should not have given my opinion, I was not asked ,I don't know why did I ever post it
Unless you're being abusive or disregarding of the community and the rules if a thread is open you're meant to express your opinion if you feel compelled to, just like LS said.
That mean that we humans always try to find explanations for bad deeds we do , that is why we try to justify whatever we do and than we brain wash ourselves with that justification for whatever we are doing !! [...] I consider pron to be Immoral
I am really curious to know where are you coming from, would you mind elaborate why do you think porn is immoral?
It sounds to me like you have a very strong opinion regarding this but are defensive about people picking apart your reasoning. We might counter with the way we think but it won't be a personal attack or trying to force you to change your mind.
Either way it is good to talk about our beliefs and rationalizations to correct and reaffirm our own ideas. Otherwise topics like this become taboo and paradigms. It is healthy to question and understand why we think the way we do, and a good way is exchanging ideas. -
Hmm... To be honest, I've only heard of about half of these in internet discussions... Some of the abbreviations are familiar, while others are new to me...
That makes sense, after all some games are discussed more often than others.

Kaynil just sassed me. >:O
This could probably a conversation we could have had if face to face. The fact that you mention you have the shirt after I say that's my frightening imagery.ye stuff grosses me out for sure, but I wouldn't say it unsettles or disturbs me. I just go 'eugh! Gross!'
It makes me terribly anxious to see the needle getting close to the eye. I don't think it is gross. It just makes me dread anything like that happening to me. Anywhere else you can stop looking but not when is your eye and it is taking its bloody time while you're paralized. It could be due some imagery I actually see when I was growing up. The neighbour had two dogs and the big dog bit the small dog...
A good ghost story can make me uncomfortable to be in my house alone at night.
Yeah.
I used to have a book of paranormal compilations. I would read it at night and then be afraid of every little sound.
I remeber I read about human combustion and I was afraid I'd catch on fire while I was asleep like those stories I read. -
A friend I haven't spoken to in years bought me Legend of Grimrock 2 the other day. I've been too preoccupied toget in game yet, but I'm fuckin' stoked to try it out. The original was rock fuckin solid, and hard as balls.
I haven't heard of that one. What si what you liked from the first one? Is it a PC game or a table game? -
It occurs to me that this thread makes the little psuedo twitter feeds on oir profile pages kinda redundant.
Good point. Maybe I should close this thread and encourage you all to use the wall more often. -

Geeze. In 3 days it is going to be game over for me.
-
We were going to get it ASAP but we kind of realise that we more or less saw coming what the game was going to be about and we would pretty much be hooked with it and then the rush would pass. The main reason I wanted to buy it was to be in before everybody got bored with it and stopped talking about it.
I am sure it is a fun game and I eventually would like to try it out but I am not in a hurry.

The more, the merrier I say. It adds a lot of variety to people's teams, so everyone won't use the same Pokemon over and over again. I'm glad that there are 721 Pokemon.
That is quite optimistic. I think they just make bigger the list of rejects for being weaklings. At least competively speaking I would imagine you tend to see similar pokemon being chosen.
I think I'll draw the pokemon line at 1000.
