There's this fun reversal once you become an adult where suddenly your parents need you more than you need them."Boo hoo, why don't you ever call." "Because you failed to build a good relationship with me when you had the chance."

    Something to look forward to.

You have my condolences and my sympathy. This is some rough shit.

My first reaction to reading this is that there are two sides to this story. Given how your dad reacted, though, his side of the story doesn't really matter. Lines were crossed, child abuse happened. Nothing you could have put into a text justifies what he did. If you want to go to the police or find a lawyer, I'd imagine there are avenues for your protection open to you. Obviously I am not a lawyer, it would be irresponsible for me to offer you legal advice, or for you to take anything I say as legal advice. But if it's something you want to pursue, I believe these experiences could carry some weight. If nothing else, having a police record of the incident will prove beneficial if you feel you need to take firmer legal action in the future.

You are a person with inalienable legal rights. What you're describing is not only assault, but it's assault of a vulnerable individual (i.e. a child). The fact that he's your father doesn't give him the right. It's not 'discipline,' it's a crime.

All of that being said, I do get the sense that you're giving yourself unhealthy amounts of leeway based on your Asperger's diagnosis. A diagnosis should give you an idea of what you need to do to help yourself function better. It shouldn't be an excuse for bad behavior. "I have X, so I'm just always going to act this way, it can't be helped" is not a helpful or healthy way to think. The world isn't full of social wheelchair ramps for the mentally disabled. You've gotta figure out how to get up those metaphorical stairs, or else you're going to be stuck at the bottom forever complaining about the lack of ramps.

On a more personal note, "Because I said so" is what stupid adults who have an undeserved sense of superiority over children say. It's what someone says when they believe the person they're speaking to is more a burdensome piece of property than they are an individual person. Fuck em'.

I'm curious how they intend to distribute this technology. Unless every printer on the market uses this tech, why wouldn't people just buy printers that don't have this tech installed? No one is going to arbitrarily choose to limit themselves. Particularly by giving printers (already justifiably regarded as the most cantankerous part of a computer system) one more reason to fail.

Which is to say nothing of copyrighted material that I have the right to print. Such as pdfs that I bought.

    Other stuff that is old:

    > Zone Alarm firewall, to protect from HACKERS.
    >"My Connection" is the application I used for connecting to the internet via my 56k Modem.
    >That folder with the blacked out text is called "Nick's Stuff," because I didn't want anyone on the Internet to learn my name.

So I've never played Rust, and I'm not a huge machinima / Lets Play fan. But my buddy sent me these and I fuckin' love them.

The first 5 minutes is kinda slow, but it picks up quickly. By the end of episode 2 I was ravenous for more, and I really wish episode 3 was out by now.

Dumb ol' 'zilla always manages to turn Internet arguments into a kind of poetry.

I imagine that increasing automation will make things worse for awhile. Jobs will become ever more scarce, and the poor classes will become ever larger. But ultimately that's unsustainable. The poor will force a change. Eventually automation will lead to a world where--at the very least--everyone receives a minimum standard income. Some people are still needed for jobs, and still do jobs, and those people get more money than the rest of us, but the majority of the population will not need to work for their money.

Of course, without proper education and direction, a life without work will create people with lazy minds, which I really hope we can avoid. I want to see people using their newfound freedoms to enrich themselves and grow human culture, but that's far from a guarantee.

I imagine artificial intelligences will be created, we will reach the technological singularity, and the advancement of technology will outpace the human ability to understand it. But that will be okay, because the emergent intelligences will be our friends. They will help us to move forward. There may be conflicts, but I do not believe these new creatures will want to use violence to resolve conflict with us. We will just have to learn to grow together.

Expanding out from our world is necessary. We should be throwing every ounce of available resources towards that goal already, and I think over time we will start to realize that truth. We're seeing the seeds of that even now, with the energetic (if often misinformed) love of science from the millennial generation.

Well, I have seen a forum game to the end before, but it looks like neither of you are counting that one since you both participated in the breakfast game, and Kaynil would be out of the game if you guys were counting it.

I don't THINK I ever owned any Pokemon cards. I certainly never bought any, or learned how to play the game. It's possible a friend may have left some at my house at one point and it took a few months for them to get them back, but I don't think I ever owned any.

My family owned a pogo stick when I was a kid. I was really really good at it. It depresses me that adult pogo sticks are so prohibatively expensive. I think this one should probably count against me, since the Pogo stick was probably a christmas present "to the whelan kids," which would make me partial owner.

So I guess my score is at 5.

Never have I ever had a cup of coffee.

I haven't heard much of the Ouya once it came out. Did you own one? What is what you like about it?

I did own one. Unfortunately the whole thing was kind of a bust. They struggled to get any good games set up, and eventually ran out of money. A huge bummer all around. Which is too bad, because I did (and do) love the core philosophy of the thing, and would have loved to see it become a sort of "indie game console," but that never really came to fruition.

The experiment failed, but I liked what they tried to do.
