Gym leaders are so meaningless in the game, they basically have one dialogue and that's it. You don't feel any accomplishment in beating them because you don't know them until you talk to them. Giovanni is probably the only one giving a certain feeling of accomplishment.
They do it right for some Champions, beating Lance feels good because god he was so much better than you while at Blackthorn, you're like jeez this guys a lv40 while I'm sitting at 27? Gotta step it up this dude's cool.

Thanks to the anime I actually kinda like some gym leaders, being Brock who would've been completely irrelevant if I was talking just in-game, Morty too.

It never really caught much of my attention, but I'm not exactly huge on RPGs so there's that. Only reason I still consider sometime playing this games is because of how much praise it gets. I'll see if I get to it sometime and post an actual opinion.

I never played more than a few minutes of Soul Reaver. Not finishing this game has always bugged me but a lot of games do that to me.

Yeah as anime any shonen is crap most of the time, they also have fillers all over it. The character develoment is bad, the story isn't too interesting because at some point you will lose interest even if the original concept was good, either that or they really managed it badly.
ie bleach has great characters, but there's so many there's barely any character development, the conflicts are blindly resolved through violence and hardly any good guy dies. The original shinigami idea is p cool but I mean 300 chapters in it gets old. it really goes downhill as time goes on, it's entertaining somewhat, but not as good. Last arc on the manga is actually not bad which is a shame if it doesn't get animated. But that's no excuse if 200+ chapters weren't great.

From what I've heard Fairy tail suffers from most of these traits, plus a way more annoying protagonist if you ask me. good art unlike bleach but terrible characters and character development, storyless basically because characters barely keep track of their goals, etc.

Like I already said, p much everyone I know says Hunter X Hunter is the pinnacle of shounen. It has good art, good storyline and good characters and they're all managed great during the series. It has somewhat of a slow start but that's about the only bad thing I've heard about it and it isn't even bad.

there's a few others I really liked. Cowboy Bebop is solid, Kill la Kill if you're searching for satire humor it handles it really good. Hyoka is great too.

Iunno putting something like absolutely the best is a big deal. I like all of these but I'm not sure, it's so subjective.
