I've tried to come back a few times, but things are slow enough that I usually fall off again. Gonna make a real concerted effort to stick around for at least a few months this time. This is the only traditional forum I've got left.

holy heck we made it to the other side of the starting line!

Nice! The collector's market around Gameboy games doesn't seem too bad. Nothing selling for hundreds of dollars.
-
I watched a few movies yesterday and it's great.
The story line is nothing new but it's still cool to watch couple of movies.
What didja watch? :O

The other night I watched "Free Willy" for the first time since probably 1994 or so. I've kinda been on a kick of looking back at early 90s "Family" films lately.
It didn't hold up as well as some of the others I've watched, but I enjoyed bits of it. The wife and I had a lot of fun guessing when they were using a real whale, vs. when they were using a prop whale. There were also CGI whales, but those were...not difficult to spot. x'D

That is quite a collection. :O
I never really got into portable games. at all. My parents hated them, so I never played any as a kid, and was not inclined to seek them out as I grew older.

Every area of the forum is, therefore, a staff-only area. >:P

As it stands now, I'm pretty sure the forum is composed entirely of staff.

Ooo, I've been known to enjoy a good pun now and again.
I've never really gotten into mystery novels for whatever reason. I've mostly enjoyed the ones I've read, but I don't generally seek them out. I have recently acquired some of Agatha Christie's greatest hits, and will hopefully be digging into those soon.

Claraviolet Is it Lisa Gardner?
I've also been reading "Axiom's End" by Lindsay Ellis, as I am a huge fan of hers. It's a good story, slightly clunky in places, but fun and thoughtful, and better than any other art I've seen from someone who built their reputation on being a critic.

^Should definitely go pester the pickle. Get him on here
< Just woke up, so the last thing I ate was dinner. Rice, broccoli, and oven roasted chicken. Came out alright.

Kaynil Xanadu is a weird word. It is basically an early 19th century English poet's attempt to transliterate the name of a great Mongolian city. He did a really bad job of it, but the word has endured in English as a sort of metaphor for a grand, and perhaps unreachable city.
I was never able to make much progress in the game as a kid, but the promise of the game was so striking that I kept coming back to try. (In that sense I suppose the game is aptly titled!) It has stuck in my mind for most of my life.

It was originally a PC game. I played the dickens out of it when it first came out in 2014, which is part of why I'm only now getting around to the additional campaigns. I beat the original 4 times in a row, and by the time they released Plague of Shadows I was just too burned out on the game to be interested.
The original is a highly polished experience with loads of variety from level to level. Very close to being a perfect platformer, IMHO.

Happy to hear you enjoyed it, man.
Back in the day I enjoyed the Gameboy one a lot. That got me thinking, I wonder how would the original be for people that first enjoyed the remake. Would it still be enjoyable for them? :/
There'll be some things they'd probably miss, like only having two buttons for all their inventory without a set button for sword and shield, haha.I've been thinking the same thing! I kinda wanna play the original sometime soon. I was particularly aware of that two-button limitation as I went. It was certainly nice having my sword and shield available all the time, but I defs think there was some interesting complexity lost.

Savvy~ I read Silence of the Lambs first. I went into it not expecting much, and was pleasantly surprised. I figured I'd give Red Dragon a chance as well, and it was also entertaining.
I haven't read any of the later books, and do not plan on it. I know enough spoilers about them to know I'd rather not read the stories. Not my vibe.
