Soul Calibur Franchise

  • This includes Soul Edge/Blade PS1 game.

I bought SCV a while ago but only recently felt the itch to play it. Sadly, what moved me was the idea of trying to recreate the characters I had made at some point for SCIII. I failed but it brought me back memories.

I met the SC franchise with their second game, taking the gamecube version because it included Link. the storyline was quite interesting for me and I really wanted to know what would be the fate of some of the characters. The girls are also an absolute eye candy.

    Wiiiiiiiiiiind~

I can never let go of Link's Piggy Ride. <3

Abnyway, are you familiar with the freanchise?
Who were your favourite characters and the ones you dislike the most? :D

  • I'm really bad at fighting games. Really really really really bad. But if I had to pick a "real" fighting game to play, it'd probably be Soul Calibur 2.

Raphael is cheap. But I kinda like playing him, because I actually spent ~10 years as a sabre fencer. So I personally have some familiarity with his moveset. I also like playing him because he's cheap and it's the only way I can ever win anything.

SC2 is also the first time I ever saw a character using Tonfa, which are a pretty neat weapon.

  • The only Soul Caliber game I've ever played is Soul Caliber V for my Xbox 360. I thought it was an alright game. I thought the cutscenes were crap though. I dunno if this was my TV or what, but the sound kept cutting off randomly during cutscenes. And, although the story is AMAZING, the main story of the game is really, really short. That kind of dissapointed me, but meh. After hearing that Soul Caliber II has Link on the Gamecube version, I would absolutely love to play it if I could find it.

    *insert something witty here*

  • The girl in the red spandex always annoyed me. Like...c'mon guys. There are limits.

Are there people who don't know about porn? Is there some poor soul out there who spends all their money on video games with saucy ladies in them, never knowing that all he need do is google "boob?"

  • I have them from SC2 through 5 and although they're enjoyable I don't really enjoy them as a fighting game. Kind of like Tekken but on a even bigger way it's a pretty defensive playstyle so the pacing gets boring. The conversions aren't huge either. Although I've rarely seen tournament play so maybe I'm totally off on the competitive pacing Iunno.

Link's Mixup game on SC2 was the best. Back then I played A lot of Link, Raphael, Xianghua, Talim, Siegfried/Nightmare, Seong Mina, Yun Seong, Kilik, and Later on SC3 I also picked up Tira.
    All fun characters.

I'm not getting old, I'm killing myself before I hit my 30s

I have SCV on the PS3 which promt me to create this thread. The sound also goes off to me in some cutscenes in the 1p story mode.

    Taki boobs hahah.

Raphael was an interesting character. Tira us also fun to use.

In SCV I like to make custom edits to make them look contemporaneous. Hahah.

  • How did I forget about this 1V1 Me mate I'll rek u

Hahah. It definitely sounds like a plan that we must face sometime online.
You will mop with me but I know I'll be laughing the whole time. :XD:

  • You say it like I still knew how to play SC. I can already see myself walking back and wondering why Raphael's not guarding.

Then after enough time playing again to regain the knowledge, Sanyo comes and defeat us like nothing. Haha

Anyway. I am average or below so I am sure you'll be fine. :P

  • Probably sounds crazy but the only Soul Calibur game I played was Soul Calibur IV on the Xbox 360. I remember once playing with my brother and a friend and it was winner takes on the other person and that was a lot of fun. I can't help but feel that I missed out on so much though not playing the previous games.

It is fun franchise, and its eems each game had its own unique characters, but other than that if you're not interested in the story then I think whichever you grab can be a lot of fun.

Soul Calibur V's story is confusing, but once I understood it, it became one of the best stories ever written for a video game. It's a shame that it's kind of short, though.

I just went through it. Both characters were kind of cringey to me but it does gets interesting. By the last chapters you really want to see more.
It is a shame it was so short. It is my understanding they had to cut it half the size and they wanted to have all the characters to make an apparition.
I changed the voice to Japanese and it seems that messed up in some cutscenes because they were muted. Thank Goodness for the subtitles, haha.
Also, many people seem to have a problem with SCV scroll scenes, because they didn't recreate each scene but I think taht was a nice throwback to older SC games, I remember SCII was similar. I think this allowed the focus on the battle and the satisfaction of the Key points being the ones animated. Besides, knowing they had time and or budget constrictions makes it understandable they couldn't animate every part, even if they wanted to. Deadlines.

  • I always found Tekkken to be a much better series and so I never got into soul calibur

Tekken is pretty fun on its own. Tekken is more close combat. Both have gone with new characters for the latest games, and decisions not everybody is happy about.

  • Tekken 7 has me pretty hype though. They removed bound but added some new features that look pretty neat.

Alright! I made a thread to discuss Tekken :^o^:

What do you guys think Soul Calibur could do to become better?
If anew SC game was announced, how excited would you be?
