Developers love giving bonuses to people that pre-order their games now. So do you tend to pre-order your games? If not, what holds you back?
Pre-orders

I think preordering games is the reason we have stupid DLC prices and unfinished games hitting the market.

To be fair, I wouldn't blame the DLC prices on pre-ordering games. At this point, I would love some DLC for certain games like GTA and Red Dead Redemption but it really seems like they don't want to and care more about making money from the online modes.

The first preorders used to be quite generous nowadays it seems to be pretty low efforr or at least, that's the impression I get. I agree with Kyde that it is probably a big part on the shift of accepting unfinished games and their price increase.
It is rare that I preorder. I think Zelda games were one of my few exceptions. -

I also agree with Kyde. I don't pre-order almost anything. I even avoid day 1 purchase of anything. I'd rather wait a few months for reviews to work out, and kinks to be resolved. The pre-order bonuses I've seen mostly seem to be stuff I don't actually want (overpowered in-game items, or cheaply made game merch); or it's content cut from the actual game (in which case I don't want to buy the game at all. There's more great games in the world than I'll be able to play in my entire lifetime, why waste time on a game that's gonna jerk me around?)

I only tend to pre-order if it's a favorite series of mine. So something like Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil, Yakuza/Like a Dragon.

Solid choices for favorite series btw.
What makes that worth doing for you? Is the merch/pre-order bonus enticing? It's not usually difficult to get a day 1 copy of a game like that, is it?

No it's not, but I don't drive, so I often pre-order mostly to make sure it arrives on my doorstep for release day.
If there's a deluxe edition or any extras, that's just a bonus. For example, with Resident Evil 9, I'll probably order the deluxe edition and have it for release day.
My next pre-orders will be in a few weeks for Yakuza 0 director's cut & Yakuza Kiwami 1&2 on PS5.
