What movies do you find yourself returning to at this time of year?

I've got a softspot for the old Bing Crosby movie 'White Christmas.' It's not a good movie by any means. It's saccharine, jingoistic, sexist, and the plot is driven by the most forced 'misunderstanding' contrivance of all time. But, for all that, it's an inoffensive bit of feelgood schlock with some really great song and dance numbers. I enjoy it. I'd even go so far as to recommend it.

    What about you?

Me and my family have a tradition of watching A Christmas Story every Christmas. You know, the movie where that kid wants the Red Rider BB Gun, but his parents won't let him. That one. I like it.

That movie seems to have a huge following now, I never really got into it myself. I'm pretty sure I've seen the whole thing, but never all the way through in one sitting. Always in bits and chunks.

    It's very real.

We also do several other different Christmas traditions, but that's for another thread.

Its been years since I watched Home Alone. I think I'll do it this Christmas, just because you mentioned it.

Home Alone 1 and 2 are amazing. I don't know what the hell those so called "3 and 4" were.

I downloaded the first two. Watched a few minutes of the first one. John Hughes really was a skilled writer in so many ways. He understood children in a way few adults do. A shame he was taken from us so young.

I think I'm gonna male a day of it with my lady. Pizza, wine, and a 2-part Home Alone marathon.

    We don't celebrate christmas.
So, I don't really watch anything special on that day. Then again, no one can stop me from watching anime though.

Ended up watching Home Alone, not because I suggested the movie. It just happened to be the one my housemate girl friend and her family chose for their afternoon gathering.
I also heard Gremlins was going to be the latter function that night, hahah.

I might be putting this one on my list for next Christmas, hahah.

    Black Christmas

Funny enough, made by the same guy who has made another Christmas classic- A Christmas Story. Bob Clark loved Christmas themed movies.

Ooh, this is actually a big Christmas thing since my childhood. There's a whole bunch of movies, though I never keep to any strict movie schedule. Except for some old Disney shorts that have been running on Christmas day since forever. I feel bummed out if I miss them.

I do try to watch some of these:
    Edward Scissorhands
    A Nightmare Before Christmas
    A Christmas Carol (Disney version)
    Home Alone
    The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix
    Gremlins

There's also usually a really weird Advent show in Norwegian, one episode per day in December until the 24th. My favorite is about three forest gnomes who fly across the sky to save their leader, but they crash by a farm and have to hide from a vampire. Great comedy.

Home Alone and Elf is a family favourite for the Christmas period for us. Even if we don't watch Elf, Home Alone is a must watch in December because of how great it is. I'm not even sure how many times we've watched it now considering we've loved it since I was quite young.
