I can't go long talking about horror movies before something reminds me of this trailer. Some of you have seen it before, but hopefully it is still as entertaining.
The whole killer using a knife and other items seem to come from the fact directors wanted the audience to understand the pain better. Very few people have been shot before, but most people have accidentally cut themselves or burned themselves from boiling water. So they began incorporating everyday things instead of things like guns.

Oh, I never thought of that! That is pretty interesting. I guess this also could explain the reasoning of some 'clichés' as well, like the person that trips trying to escape.
