What does your username mean?

At some point you were sitting in front of a computer with a blank text box that said "Username:" to the left of it. You put something unique in that box. Why?

At this point, I've been "Link Skywalker" for fully half of my life. In 2001 my parents were finally going to allow me to make an email address all my own. At the time, the two most important things in my life were The Legend of Zelda video games, and Star Wars. Thus, my email address became Link_Skywalker_2001@yahoo.com.

Within a week I'd changed it to LinkSkywalker14@Yahoo.com, and I've used either "Linkskywalker" or "Linkskywalker14" to sign up nearly every account I've made since then. I feel like it's important to maintain a continuity with my username, so that people will always be able to recognize me. Although these days I prefer to go by "LS," because neither TLoZ nor Star Wars is really that big of a part of my life anymore.

AMUSING SIDE-NOTE: I am not the first Link Skywalker. I learned, about a year after I made the username, that there was another guy in the Zelda community who went by that name. He was apparently a huge asshole or something, because I actually got shadowbanned from a few forums because people mistook me for him.

But I own linkskywalker.com, so I'm the real one now.

I thought of this name from a fan game of Five Nights at Freddy's called Five Nights at Fuckboy's. I just loved the dialogue used in that game, especially the part where it uses the word inhale. Inhale then became my new favorite word.

I have always read @kilovh the way I pronounce the word Kilo as in Kilo-grams or Kilometers. I still mispronounce the v and mistake the "h" for a mute sounds, because I'm mexican and I have an accent. I always wonder how wrongly I am pronouncing everyone's nicknames. Sometimes I hear @Sardonic Pickle pronounce them , realise they are different to the way I do it and just copy him from then on. Hahah.

My nick also hides a "Link" in it, like many of you do. When I joined my first forum it happen to be a Zelda one but I wanted a unique nickname so I ended up writing Link backwards. Back then Man in Black was in the cinemas and some article called agent K as Agent "Kay" so I used that give it a proper sound to my nickname.

Since then I've been using it.

I also like that it can b separated into "K" and "Nil", K being one of my favourite letters and Nil being a sound for emptiness.
As another trivia "K" in spanish is pronounced 'Kah' and "nil" can become "nada" (Kanada « soulds like Canada) or "cero" (Kacero « sounds like casero (Spanish for home-made). Pretty pointless but it just amuses me.

I'm almost certain that I'd heard the origins of your name before, but I must have forgotten them. That's neat! I'm always a fan of wordplay, and seeing it explained in a language other than English is cool.

Regarding "Kilovh" by the by: the "H" should be silent. I usually pronounce it like the words "Kill" and "of," smooshed together.

Well, back in the early 1985, I had invented a video game called The Legend of Link....based on my life of course. Then in 1986, Shigeru Miyamoto stole my idea and made the legend about a girl named Zelda and took the credit for himself. Since I had no proof of the incident......

My username is a name I was given when I was at school. All my friends thought I was cute and I am also short so they gave me the nickname Shortie. It did stop being used after I finished high school until I started posting on forums and gaming which was when I started using it again the 86 is my date of birth and the 1 is a random one because I can be a random person :D

That's actually pretty interesting. I had no idea your nickname said so much about you! :^o^:

In highschool one of my friends spread the nickname Roxus. It had to do with my real names combined. My friedns each wrote it their own way. When I joined my very first forums, HCA, I joined as Kaynil Roczuz. Then I kind used Roczuz for Spanish forums and Kaynil for English ones and finally I dropped my high school nick until I needed some sort of name place holder for a proboards I made as a refugee.

The only nicknames I've ever had were dumb shit like "Nicky" or "Nick the Stick."

Most of us don't actually get the cool nicknames.
