Well, I got a lot of stuff that I asked my mom to buy me when I was a kid... Video consoles, computers, junk food etc.
As for the most memorable unexpected gifts I remember, hmm... I rarely got unexpected gifts... I got a cool toy from my grandpa's neighbor when I was living at the farm with them... We didn't have city toys back then, and that was something that stuck in my mind for some reason...
My girlfriend when we were still in the "like" and super awkward phase went with her family on a road trip to california and on the way back she got some little souvenir bracelet with like the yin-yang symbol carved into it. and I wear it every day with me all the time and never leave anywhere without it.

Same for me, I think. Even though I had sneak peeked on the N64 before it was wrapped, I didn't know until Christmas Eve that they had also got Ocarina of Time with it!

If you want to talk about physical gifts, then the most memorable one to me is when my ex bought all the Spider-Man movies for me, as I was a big Spider-Man fan during 8th Grade. I never got a gift from someone in a relationship like that one before, and I am grateful.
Getting a cam-corder was the coolest thing ever when I was nine, and me and my bro had months of fun making stupid action sequences. But actually, the best present far and away (exluding all the things the OP didn't intend) has to be the music keyboard I got for my 18th. I've been hooked on keyboard ever since, and it's brought me unending hours of joy through all sorts of times.
On a lesser note (ha!), one christmas when I was about ten my dad got me a bunch of n64 games. He didn't know anything about games and selected them at random. I'd never heard of any of them and therefore assumed crapness. But that bundle included Twisted Edge and Wipeout64, which turned out to be damn fun.

Probably my car for my birthday. I was really excited to get it because I wanted to start going places instead of being home all the time.
